National Garden Scheme Donates £50,000

National Garden Scheme Donates £50,000 to the John King Brain Tumour Foundation.

The John King Brain Tumour Foundation is deeply grateful to the National Garden Scheme for their generous donation of £50,000. This remarkable contribution is part of a record-breaking total of £3,501,227 donated in 2024 to support some of the UK’s most cherished nursing and health charities.

The National Garden Scheme’s record donations highlight the incredible impact gardens and garden visits have on supporting vital causes. Their funding helps thousands of people facing challenges such as cancer, Parkinson’s, mental health struggles, or financial hardship as unpaid carers. It supports critical nursing care, end-of-life services, and community health initiatives, ensuring that people across the UK receive essential help when they need it most.

In 2024, nearly 3,500 private gardens opened their gates to visitors, raising funds through admissions, plant sales, and, of course, the classic combination of tea and cake. These efforts, combined with additional donations, sponsorships, and partnerships, enabled the National Garden Scheme to reach new heights in their charitable giving.

Chief Executive George Plumptre expressed his gratitude, saying:

“The commitment of our garden owners, supported by our incredible volunteers, is truly inspiring. Beyond the funds raised, these gardens provided immense joy and relaxation to thousands of visitors. For our beneficiaries, the long-term continuity of our funding is invaluable, allowing them to continue their critical work.”

Since its founding in 1927, the National Garden Scheme has donated over £74 million to nursing and health charities, making it the UK’s largest charitable funder in this sector. Their beneficiaries include Macmillan Cancer Support, Marie Curie, Hospice UK, and The Queen’s Nursing Institute, among others. In addition to funding, the Scheme also champions the mental and physical health benefits of gardening, supporting projects and initiatives in the Gardens and Health sector.

The John King Brain Tumour Foundation is honoured to be part of this extraordinary network of care and support. These funds will make a tangible difference in the lives of those affected by brain tumours, and we look forward to continuing our partnership with the National Garden Scheme in the years to come.
