Running for a Cause: Ellen and Claudia’s Inspiring London Marathon for the John King Brain Tumour Foundation.
Every year, the London Marathon brings together thousands of runners, each with a personal story, a meaningful cause, and a passion to make a difference. Among this year’s inspiring participants were two extraordinary women – Ellen Arthur and Claudia Bethell – who went the distance in aid of the John King Brain Tumour Foundation (JKBTF).
Ellen Arthur took on the 2025 London Marathon as part of team Project21forLife, raising funds for the John King Brain Tumour Foundation. Her involvement is deeply personal – Richard Sullivan, a cherished member of Ellen’s family, founded Project21forLife to support individuals and families affected by brain tumours.
Brain tumour cancers receive less than 3% of the UK’s annual cancer research funding – something Project21forLife and the JKBTF are working tirelessly to change. Richard has played a pivotal role in driving progress, including spearheading the creation of the ‘Forest in the Sky’ roof garden beside the Neuro ICU at St George’s Hospital, Tooting. Due to open later this year, the garden will provide a peaceful space for critical care patients, their families, and NHS staff.
Funds raised by Ellen are going towards this visionary project, alongside other vital initiatives such as the purchase of neurological equipment and the upkeep of the McKissock Ward Roof Garden at St George’s.
This wasn’t Ellen’s first marathon for the cause either. Ellen ran the Paris marathon is 2023 raising over £3,000. She followed that by completing the London Marathon on 21st April 2024, raising over £4,500 towards the NICU roof garden – another amazing achievement.
Ellen shared:
“London really was an incredible experience with amazing crowds, but running for team Project21forLife and the John King Brain Tumour Foundation is what kept me going throughout and made the experience all the more special.”

Claudia Bethell ran with determination and joy, soaking up the incredible atmosphere and support along the route. Reflecting on the day, she shared:
“What an incredible experience, I enjoyed every moment. The crowds were unbelievable – everyone was shouting my name! I saw my family, my friends, and the cheering squad from my running club, and that was a very big boost. I had 3:45 in mind, but the heat got to me, and I managed 3:57 – still very happy with that. I couldn’t have done any more, it was just too hot. It has been a pleasure to be able to raise money for your amazing charity, and I hope the money I raised will help in supporting all the work you do.”
Claudia’s enthusiasm, strength, and commitment to raising funds for JKBTF made her run an unforgettable contribution to the cause. To make a donation visit JustGiving here.
