Brain Tumour Awareness Month: How You Can Make a Difference
March 1st – 31st

Every March, Brain Tumour Awareness Month brings communities together to support those affected by brain tumours. It is a time to shine a light on one of the most challenging conditions that impact thousands of people worldwide – and the amazing work being done to improve lives.

At the John King Brain Tumour Foundation, we are dedicated to supporting the Atkinson Morley Wing of St George’s Hospital. With your help, we fundraise for crucial neurosurgical equipment, the McKissock Ward Roof Garden (a peaceful space for patients and their loved ones), and the upcoming Neuro ICU Roof Garden, which will open in 2025.

Our mission is simple: to make a difference for both adult and paediatric brain tumour patients. We focus on raising funds for treatments and creating healing environments within the hospital to provide a little peace in the midst of very difficult times.

What Is Brain Tumour Awareness Month?
Brain Tumour Awareness Month is all about spreading the word – helping people understand brain tumours, the impact they have on patients and families, and the need for more research and better treatments. Brain tumours can affect anyone, of any age, and while some are benign, others can be more aggressive and life-threatening.

Even though there have been advances in medical treatments, brain tumours are still one of the most complex and underfunded areas in cancer research. Many people are unaware of the symptoms, and delays in diagnosis can make a world of difference to a patient’s journey. That’s why awareness is so important. The earlier we spot the signs, the better the chance for successful treatment.

How You Can Help – It’s Simple!
There are many meaningful ways to get involved and show your support this month. Here’s how you can make a difference:

  1. Wear Grey – Grey represents brain tumour awareness. Wear a grey ribbon or a grey shirt to show you care and start conversations with others about this important cause.
  2. Spread the Word – Share information on social media – the more people know about brain tumours, the more we can help. Encourage others to learn the signs and take action sooner.
  3. Fundraise with Love – Organise a small charity event, run a sponsored walk, or set up an online fundraiser to support life-saving research and patient care.
  4. Donate – Every little bit counts. Your donation helps fund vital research, patient care, and enhancements to hospital services. Every penny goes towards helping someone in need.
  5. Support Patients and Families – Reach out to someone affected by a brain tumour. Offer a listening ear or lend a helping hand. Your support makes a world of difference.
  6. Attend Events – Get involved in local events, talks, or fundraisers – either online or in person – and show your support for those affected by brain tumours.
