The JKBTF  Guildford Cathedral Abseil

The JKBTF  Guildford Cathedral Abseil

On Saturday 8th June, 32 brave participants climbed the tower of Guildford Cathedral and descended the 160ft back down again. Our goal was to raise the remaining 33% needed to purchase a Stealth Autoguide Robotics Guidance Platform, and we did it, raising an impressive £26,801!

The day was not only thrilling but also deeply meaningful, as we connected with those being treated at the hospital, those who know someone affected, and those who have lost someone to neurological diseases. It was a wonderful day of togetherness and support.

Please don’t just take our word for it; read about Damien’s reflections of the day:

The JKBTF  Guildford Cathedral Abseil

The weekend was nothing short of extraordinary. On June 8th, 2024, we gathered at Guildford Cathedral for our charity abseil, a day filled with excitement, hope, and community.

On the day of the abseil, the atmosphere was filled with apprehension, mainly due to the initial weigh in for some of us!! Myself, my fiancée Lauren, my Mum Julie, Dads best friend Bruce and brother-in-law John were ready to take on the challenge.

We randomly managed to persuade two of our neighbors, Martin and Claire, who had come to watch, to join us in the abseil. Their spontaneous participation added even more excitement to the day. Although Martin didn’t look best pleased once he was at the summit!!

The descent was thrilling and exciting, hearing the cheers from our friends, family, and community below was incredibly uplifting. For Dad, seeing everyone come together meant the world. It was a testament to his strength and the support that has surrounded us.

There were a few funny moments too, like when John tried to do a superhero landing at the bottom and ended up in a less-than-graceful heap! These moments made the day even more memorable and filled with laughter.

The day was topped off with amazing beer and barbecues at Lauren’s dad’s pub, run by Martin and Mandy. It was the perfect end to a perfect day, surrounded by love, laughter, and great company.

We are deeply grateful to everyone who supported us, donated, and shared our story. Your generosity is making a real difference.

We are especially grateful to the team from the JKBT team for hosting the event and making this all possible.

Thank you so much,

Damian
