The Neuro River Walkers

The Neuro River Walkers – This year the Neurosurgery team at St George’s Hospital have joined forces to raise funds for the John King Brain Tumour Foundation Charity.

They had a fun walk from Canary Wharf to Battersea Park on the 15th of October, to remember colleagues that are sadly no longer with them. All the money raised will help The John King Brain Tumour Foundation Charity to create a new roof garden adjacent to the Neurosurgery Intensive Care. The garden will be a beautiful respite for patients, relatives, and staff. Where many can enjoy fresh air, relax, and rejuvenate. In many ways, it helps everyone to feel calmer and gives us a better sense of purpose in tough times.

  • So far, The Neuro River Walkers have achieved £1890 which is a fantastic achievement. Thank you to their friends and colleagues.
  • Please keep donating and helping them to achieve their goal and make this new Neurosurgery Garden a reality. Visit the Neuro River Walkers Just Giving Page here.

To share this special moment, we have their personal experiences on the day:

Louise MacDonald – NITU Sister

We all absolutely loved it!

Wonderful weather, amazing company, and good fun had by all!!!

Lana Thompstone – Brodie, Ward Clerk

It was a joyful day! I have the privilege to work as a ward clerk within a wonderful team. I have seen them working tirelessly to save lives. No matter how unbearable or pressurised the circumstance gets, they never fail to show compassion, kindness and professionalism towards patients and colleagues.

The charity walk gave us the opportunity to enjoy each other’s company and have the valuable time to share more with each other in a relaxed way. My highlight of the day was seeing the Neuro team having a laugh and enjoying themselves. It was priceless!! 💕💕

Patricia Francis  – Medical Secretary for Neurosurgery.

I really enjoyed the walk, the sightseeing and most of all the conversation.

The Charity Walk provided me with an opportunity to build better relationships with our staff on the wards which was really nice. Enabling me to put a name to faces and meet new staff from ICU. Great day hopeful more staff will join us next time 😂💖

Varsha Belkune – Physician Associate in NS

I enjoyed the walk from Canary Wharf to Battersea Park, sometimes by missing the main route and walking through narrow lanes. Saw Poplar town with cranes on the top of the building the same concept is in Amsterdam when the staircase is narrow to lift furniture to the top floor. Saw iconic buildings such as London Bridge, London Eye, and Parliament.  We also saw someone playing bagpiper near Parliament. We didn’t miss London weather, did drizzle for a bit. We could all walk together, tearing down the crowd at times. Enjoyed a day out of the ward. Thank you for arranging Lana and hopefully, the garden will be enjoyed by everyone 💕💕
